Monday Morning Poll: Who's Down for 'Hulk' Sequels?
Filed under: Action, Fandom, Comic/Superhero/Geek, Monday Morning Poll

First off, I need to apologize because I was supposed to provide our second Incredible Hulk review late last week, but life got in the way and I never produced it for you. I know, I'm a horrible person and I've given myself 27 lashings as punishment, though I'm sure Scott's review of the film helped you decide whether to see it or not. Truth be told, I wasn't that crazy about it -- but I'm also not a huge fan of Bruce Banner or the Hulk as characters. Banner, to me, is too depressing; how do you root for a guy who wants to hide in the corner? Sure, there are other loners like Batman and Spider-Man, but both of those guys have some fun toys to play with (like a car and a web). Banner has the Hulk, who, well, smashes things. Yay!
But anyway, Marvel gave fans a good flick with tons of action, crazy special effects and more than a few geeky nods to the comics and to The Avengers. Following the successful opening weekend of Iron Man, all we talked about was the sequel. Now that The Incredible Hulk seems to have won back more than a few fans, what are your feelings on a sequel? I've heard some say they'd rather Hulk return as a villain in The Avengers film (tentatively due out in 2011), but would you rather the guy get another solo flick too? Where are you at with this character? Do you want a franchise? Can you picture one?

3. YES YES YES, I absolutely want to see an Incredible Hulk sequel. I thought the movie was good compared to most comic book films, but am concerned about the timing of said sequel. Would they be able to make it happen before the Avengers movie comes out? I just don't see that happening and I think it would be kinda weird to have Hulk in the Avengers movie, then a year later, come out with a sequel to the Incredible Hulk. Marvel needs to simma down, pace themselves, and let the Iron Man, Hulk, and Captain American franchises blow up a bit before they make the Avengers.

4. I would like to see a Hulk sequel with the Leader but unless Marvel decides to push back the Avengers I don't see that happening. I think having the Hulk as the "villain" in the Avengers movie could actually be pretty good. He's still not in the public eye and those who have witnessed the Hulk certainly don't see him as a hero just yet. It would be cool to see S.H.I.E.L.D. and Stark reaching out to the best super heroes to try and find and capture the Hulk. It would be a pretty cool contrast to see high tech gadgetry ie Iron Man go up against brute power ie Hulk. They could end it with Tony Stark finding a way to suppress the Hulk and ultimately having Banner be able to control the Hulk and have him join the Avengers. That way they wouldn't really need Norton until the very end or just recast him in case he doesn't want to come back. But, that'd just be my take on it.

5. With Norton's history and his lack of interest in promoting this film I wonder if he will even agree to do sequels. Will he play nice in the Avengers and not try to change the script?

1. I was pleasantly surprised by the Hulk...while it wasn't as good as Iron Man, it was still a well made and enjoyable film. The whole time, though, I kept imagining how great a pair Downey's Stark and Norton's Banner would make on a team. I can see a lot of humor from interactions between Stark/Banner and Iron Man/Hulk.
